Cetara is probably the most authentic seaside village on the Amalfi Coast. Here the bond with the sea is tangible in every aspect, from the marina, where there are the most popular beaches but also the harbor with dozens of small fishing boats, to the culinary tradition, famous for its colatura d'alici DOP. Cetara

1. Cetara Marina

The Marina of Cetara is the beating heart of the village: delimited on one side by the Viceregal Tower, it hosts a sand and pebble beach, among the most popular on the Coast, and the small port. All around there are clubs, bars and restaurants; enjoy a dinner or an aperitivo in front of the sea, you will feel at peace with the world!

2. Church of St. Peter the Apostle

In the center of the village stands the majolica-tiled dome of the Church of St. Peter the Apostle. The church has a neoclassical facade but a Baroque interior and is dedicated to the town's patron saint, who is celebrated with an incredible festival every June 29. A truly exciting event to attend at least once in a lifetime!

3. Church of St. Francis of Assisi

The church dedicated to St. Francis D'Assisi has a very simple façade, embellished, however, with a large window at the top and a niche carved in the tuff where the Immaculate Conception with Saints Francis and Anthony is depicted. The interior has a single nave, with a barrel vault enriched with frescoes from the 1600s.

4. The Viceregal Tower and the Civic Museum

Dating back to the Angevin age, thus to the 14th century, the Viceregal Tower originally had a defensive function. Restored in the 1990s, it houses the Museo Civico, where you can visit the exhibition on the Costaioli painters and the special section dedicated to Fishing and to the famous Colatura di Alici (anchovy sauce).

5. Lannio beach

Lannio Beach is a sandy beach that can only be reached on foot via a flight of steps from the Vicereale Tower. The name, meaning “lament,” comes from a legend that some monks were killed there by Saracens.

6. Try the "Colatura d'Alici DOP"

No article about Cetara can end without mentioning the village's most famous and representative product! I am, of course, talking about the very famous Colatura di Alici DOP, the symbol of Cetara in the whole world. The Colatura, obtained from the maceration of salted anchovies, is an amber-colored sauce with an intense flavor, which is added to pasta - usually spaghetti - creating one of the most beloved and renowned dishes of the coastal and Campanian cultural tradition. You cannot leave Cetara without tasting a dish of it! Enjoy it in one of the village restaurants, perhaps accompanying it with a glass of white wine. It is one of life's pleasures!
