PHOTOGRAPHIC ITINERARIES ALONG THE AMALFI COAST: ALL THE PLACES WORTH CAPTURING

There are certain times of day or year that give your photos that extra touch: shooting at dawn, for example, allows you to capture even usually crowded places free of unwanted presences. The light of sunset, on the other hand, also known as the “golden hour,” gives a truly magical atmosphere to all coastal villages. The colors are warmer and the sky glows with a thousand shades of gold and red! 
The time of year can also affect the success of your photos: the thousand shades of flowers in spring, for example, or the reds and yellows of autumn can make your shots truly unforgettable.
Furthermore, the quality of the smartphone or camera you use obviously has an impact! If you want to give your photos a professional touch, the ideal solution is to travel with a professional camera or a latest-generation cell phone.

Amalfi needs no introduction: it is the town that gives its name to the entire coastline, thanks to its thousand-year history and its role as an ancient maritime republic. Once here, it is easy to follow a photographic itinerary: enter the historic center and look around. Beauty is everywhere!
- Piazza del Duomo is nothing short of special: in the center is St. Andrew’s Fountain and opposite is the imposing staircase of the Duomo. The view will take your breath away! The Cathedral of Amalfi is, in fact, the most iconic church on the Divine Coast. Its Arab-Norman architecture with Byzantine influences makes it the symbol of the coastline throughout the world. It's impossible not to take a photo! Don't miss the portico at the top of the steps: the alternation of light and shadow here is truly phenomenal! 
- If you continue along the main street, you will come across many narrow alleys and ancient arches. In addition, the artisan shops selling Amalfi paper items look like something out of a fairy tale. 

A few steps from the center of Amalfi, there is another village worth photographing: Atrani, the smallest municipality in Italy! You can reach it with a short walk: even from the road, you can admire the little houses overlooking the beach. Furthermore, during the Christmas period, Atrani is transformed: lights of all colors are projected onto the houses, turning the village into a real life-size nativity scene! It is an experience not to be missed.

Few views in the world can compare to those you can see from Ravello. Thanks to its hillside location, the village has countless panoramic viewpoints among its narrow streets and belvederes, in addition to the famous ones at Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone. Your photographic itinerary in Ravello must include them!
- Right in the town's central square, with its simple but imposing cathedral, is the entrance to Villa Rufolo. Consisting of a 14th-century tower, it leads onto an avenue flanked by a truly unique Moorish kiosk! You'll definitely want to capture every detail: the architecture consisting of intertwined arches, fountains, slender and elegant pillars... it's a feast for the eyes. During your visit, you will also come across well-kept gardens full of exotic and non-exotic plants; in spring, it is a riot of colors! Finally, these gardens end with a terrace from which you can admire the imposing maritime pines that stand out against the blue of the sky and sea... every photographer's dream!
- Go back to the narrow streets of the village: after a pleasant ten-minute walk, you will arrive at the entrance to Villa Cimbrone. Now a 5-star hotel, it opens its gardens to the public: and this is where the magic happens! The gardens of Villa Cimbrone are a magnificent example of an English garden. Walking along the Viale dell'Immenso (Avenue of the Immense), you can admire flowers and centuries-old trees, neoclassical statues and, finally, the famous Terrace of Infinity. On the terrace parapet, marble busts overlook the crystal-clear sea: a place of unique lyricism.

While Ravello has a more sophisticated charm, Vietri sul Mare is a more genuine and vibrant village. The manufacture of the famous Vietri ceramics has left a strong mark on the streets, buildings, and monuments of the town: everywhere you look, there is an explosion of colors! 
- Before entering the historic center, I recommend visiting Vietri’s Villa Comunale. Here you will be greeted by the sinuous lines of the staircases, handrails, and terrace parapets, all rigorously decorated with multicolored mosaics in Vietri ceramics.
- Once in the city center, on the other hand, artisan shops follow one after another: vases, kitchen utensils, paintings, and objects of a thousand different kinds are displayed in the shop windows. It's impossible not to take pictures of them! Also, if you look around, you'll notice decorations on the walls of the buildings. 
- Continuing towards Marina di Vietri, there is an alleyway that is very popular with photographers. This is the Vicolo Azzurro, a narrow street completely colored blue, pink, and yellow: a real gem! 

Obviously, the list I have given you does not include all the places worth photographing on the Amalfi Coast: natural beauty and stunning landscapes are everywhere here. However, there are other places worth mentioning because they are unique. 
- The Fjord of Furore, for example, is one of the most incredible natural beauties of the coast. This inlet in the rock, illuminated by the sun for only a few hours a day, allows you to take special photos, where the play of lights takes center stage. 
- Furthermore, Praiano boasts a square that is nothing short of magical: Piazza San Gennaro in Vettica Maggiore, which not only offers a panoramic view of Positano and Capri, but is made unique by the colors of its pavement and the church of San Gennaro that overlooks it. The church also has one of the most enchanting majolica domes on the coast. 
- Finally, the village of Scala has a special charm. Being the oldest village on the coast, strolling through its narrow streets allows you to find views where nature and landscape blend with rustic and ancient elements: stone walls, small squares with wells, ruins of churches and towers such as those of the Basilica of Sant'Eustachio and the Ziro Tower... all of which only adds to its uniqueness.
