The view from Maiori
1. Explore the villages without the crowds
As I mentioned, spring has the advantage of not being a particularly crowded time for tourists. Take advantage of the calm to visit the most popular places such as the Cathedral of Amalfi, with its Chiostro del Paradiso (Paradise Cloister), or the villas of Ravello, made even more beautiful by the blooming flowers. What's more, strolling along the main street and marina of Positano will be a more pleasant experience without the large crowds: it's also the ideal time to enjoy an aperitivo on Marina Grande beach! In addition, a visit to the smaller but authentic and charming villages is a must: Atrani, Cetara, Minori... they will all welcome you warmly and remain etched in your heart!
2. Go on scenic hikes
With mild temperatures and the first beautiful days of spring, it's normal to want to spend more time outdoors. Whether you're the sporty type or just want to go for leisurely walks, know that anything is possible on the Amalfi Coast! For the more athletic, the trails not to be missed are definitely the Path of the Gods and the Valle delle Ferriere. In both cases, the trekking routes are longer and more rugged, but probably the most spectacular! Always bring a water bottle and comfortable shoes with you and venture into nature: you will discover the wildest side of the Amalfi Coast and see views you will never forget!
If, on the other hand, you prefer to stay close to the villages and wander through charming alleys, the Lemon Path between Maiori and Minori or the Sentiero della Volpe Pescatrice (literally the “fishing fox trail”) in Furore are more suitable for you. 3. Visit the most beloved gardens during their flowering season
Spring is the time of year when nature awakens! Flowers are blooming everywhere, in villages, urban parks, and along trails. However, the most spectacular places to see them are undoubtedly Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone in Ravello. Here, the gardens play a key role in decorating the villas and follow a well-defined layout. You can also admire many different species of flowers, trees, and shrubs: it is truly an explosion of colors! For a more detailed list of parks and gardens to visit on the Amalfi Coast, read our article dedicated to them.
4. Savor seasonal products
In spring, many shops and restaurants that have been closed during the winter reopen. The menus usually reflect the seasonal offerings: during these months, you can find vegetables such as asparagus, fava beans, peas, artichokes, and even the first zucchini flowers (delicious fried in batter!); as well as anchovies, blue fish, squid, and calamari (don't forget to try the anchovy sauce from Cetara!). As for desserts, the famous IGP lemon from the Amalfi Coast reigns supreme, but in spring you can also find Easter desserts such as pastiera and chocolate eggs in pastry shops. In short, it's a feast for the eyes and the palate!
5. Participate in local events
Another aspect that should not be underestimated is the many initiatives that are organized around Easter. As described here, Easter is one of the most heartfelt events on the Amalfi Coast: evocative processions such as the Via Crucis and other ancient religious rites (such as that of the Battenti) are very popular with locals. I recommend taking part in these events, as traditions and folklore are a very important part of the culture and character of a people! This way, you can feel part of a community and no longer just an outside observer.
In addition to religious events, the spring months usually also see the first outdoor events or visits to the “FAI Days”: these are the perfect opportunity to discover places that are normally closed to the public!
6. Discover the sea from land or by boat
Even if the temperatures are not yet as warm as in the summer months, on some beautiful spring days there is nothing better than lying in the sun on the beach and—why not?—taking a dip! More sheltered coves such as those at Praia Marina or the Fjord in Furore are ideal for spending a few hours breathing in the sea air. Another idea to consider is renting a private boat or joining a shared tour to admire the villages from the sea and discover natural wonders such as the Emerald Grotto. Or, if you prefer a less expensive alternative, hop aboard the Travelmar ferries to get from one point to another along the coast! The view from the sea is spectacular, there are numerous departures, and in no time at all, you can visit all the seaside villages: you can find tickets at this link and at ticket offices in the main ports.
7. Enjoy unique experiences
In recent years, so-called “experiences” have spread like wildfire. Experiential tourism offers everyone the opportunity to participate firsthand in activities—either individually or in groups—that combine a love for the area being visited with the culture of the people who live there. Popular experiences include cooking classes, which I talked about here, tours of wineries or lemon groves, or sports such as climbing or cycling. In all cases, you will learn something new and come into direct contact with the locals: these are truly priceless moments! You can find all the most popular experiences in this article.
So, everything is ready! Enjoy the months of March, April, and May on the Amalfi Coast: with a slower pace and more attentive eyes, every day becomes a new and authentic adventure. Spring is truly the season of rebirth, even for travelers!
