Elegant, picturesque, and boasting a surprisingly diverse natural landscape, Capri is much more than just a trendy tourist destination. If you plan well, two days are enough to capture the essence of the island: here’s a practical itinerary to help you make the most of your visit!

Day 1: the heart of Capri

Morning
Arriving at the Marina Grande harbor is an exciting experience in itself! The energy of the harbor area is contagious: bars that are always packed, ferries coming and going, tourists looking for last-minute souvenirs… your first impression of the island is thrilling! Once you’re here, I recommend heading up to the town center by funicular or bus—both are great options. In just a few minutes, you’ll reach Capri’s famous square, Piazza Umberto I, the true heart of the island. Take the usual photos and look around: narrow streets, trendy boutiques, panoramic views, and streets that look like they’re straight out of a postcard… it’s fantastic! For your next stop, you could head over to the Gardens of Augustus, where you’ll enjoy an unparalleled view of the Faraglioni and the famous, winding Via Krupp.

For lunch, choose a trattoria slightly off the beaten path from the center to avoid overpriced and overly touristy menus: try simple traditional dishes, such as a fresh Caprese salad, pasta with lemon, or local seafood—always an excellent choice!

Afternoon
Capri is home to some natural wonders that are truly unparalleled. If the weather is good, my advice is to spend the afternoon of your first day on a boat tour of the island: it’s definitely the best way to admire the Faraglioni up close and visit the marvelous Blue Grotto… the blue you’ll find inside seems so unreal that you won’t believe your eyes! A great alternative might be to spend the afternoon on Marina Piccola Beach, with a view of the Faraglioni, or to change your plans entirely and go on a hike. In fact, the island has plenty of trails and natural paths—usually not very crowded—that will lead you to fabulous lookouts where you can admire incredible panoramic views. And that’s not all! These hikes let you discover Capri’s lesser-known sides—quiet, authentic areas surrounded by nature. If you’re curious, check out all the hiking trails in this article: you’re sure to find the perfect one for you!

Evening
After exploring the island, I recommend heading back to the center for a quiet dinner and an evening stroll around the Piazzetta area: you’ll see, it’s even more charming in the evening lights!

Day 2: Anacapri, breathtaking views, and a bit of culture

Morning
The second day of your Capri itinerary absolutely must include a visit to Anacapri. As I mentioned here https://www.travelamalficoast.it/it/capri-o-anacapri, Anacapri is the part of the island with a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere—but it’s just as charming! Among the many must-see destinations are several house-museums that offer deep insights into the island’s history and are places of great beauty: Villa San Michele, for example, with its meticulously tended gardens and breathtaking views; the Red House, where you can admire works depicting life on the island between the 19th and 20th centuries; or the Pink House, a very active cultural center (to learn about Capri’s other museums, read this article).
For lunch, I recommend trying one of the local trattorias in Anacapri: restaurants here are often less expensive, and you can definitely enjoy your meal in a less hectic atmosphere than in Capri.

Afternoon
Before heading back, there are still a few stops worth spending some time at. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could take the chairlift up Mount Solaro! It’s one of the most thrilling experiences on the island: suspended in mid-air, you’ll reach the island’s highest peak in just a few minutes, while an incredible panorama of the entire Gulf of Naples unfolds around you… simply one-of-a-kind! If, on the other hand, you’d like to pick up a few souvenirs, you could spend a few quiet hours strolling through the streets of Anacapri to buy local specialties or handcrafted sandals before heading back to the port for your ferry.

In short, two days might seem like too little time to explore an island, but in the case of Capri, they’re enough to experience both its glamour and its authenticity. Plan your two-day vacation however you like, but if you follow our itinerary, you can be sure you won’t miss any must-see spots—and at the same time, you won’t have to sacrifice moments of relaxation and leisure.
