Capri
1. Arrival at Marina Grande
Whether you depart from Naples, Sorrento, Castellammare di Stabia, or the Amalfi Coast, you will always arrive at the port of Marina Grande. What an impact! The atmosphere in this area of the island is super lively: as soon as you disembark, you will see colorful houses, bars, and hear the sounds and noises of everyday life. Have a quick breakfast in one of the local establishments: a sfogliatella or a fresh lemon slush to start the day off right!
2. Boat tour - optional byt highly recommended!
If you don't want to miss some of Capri's most famous natural wonders, the best thing to do is book a boat tour right away. This is the only way to visit the Blue Grotto, the Faraglioni rocks, and the lesser-known Green Grotto! These tours usually last an hour or an hour and a half, leaving you plenty of time to explore the rest of the island. What's more, the tours are less crowded in the morning, making the experience even more enjoyable!
3. Visit to the center of Capri and the famous Piazzetta
Once on dry land, you need to go up to the center of Capri. How? Well, nothing could be easier! From the port, you can take the funicular, which will take you to the center of town in 4 minutes. Departures are usually every 15 minutes and the cost is very low. If you find it closed for maintenance, there are always replacement buses that stop right in the Piazzetta. Once here, enjoy the atmosphere! The view is obviously incredible, and all around are boutiques, historic hotels, and elegant bars.
Then move on to the Gardens of Augustus and Via Krupp: the gardens feature panoramic terraces overlooking the Faraglioni and Marina Piccola, while Via Krupp is famous for its hairpin bends carved into the rock overlooking the sea. If it is closed, you can still see it from above: take a photo! It is definitely one of the most iconic places on the island.
4. Via Camerelle, shopping and lunch!
A few more minutes' walk will take you to another famous street in Capri, Via Camerelle. This is the most glamorous street on the island, lined with luxury boutiques, high fashion stores, and local crafts... Believe me, even if you don't buy anything, it's a real treat for the eyes!
Take advantage of your walk to check out the restaurants: there's plenty of choice! I recommend choosing one in a quiet alley and trying some typical dishes: ravioli and caprese salad, followed by a slice of delicious caprese cake. At the end of the meal, don't forget to try a glass of limoncello: this liqueur, typical of the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast, is the perfect way to end your lunch!
5. Afternoon in Anacapri (if you still have a few hours before leaving!)
As you know, the island of Capri also has a hilly area that is home to another municipality, Anacapri! A short bus ride will take you to this area, which offers the most breathtaking views! Whether you want to visit Villa San Michele with its fabulous gardens or climb Mount Solaro by chairlift (an experience not for the faint-hearted!), you can admire the island from above, including the Faraglioni rocks. What's more, the atmosphere here in Anacapri is quieter and more authentic, far removed from the hustle and bustle of Capri town. The best way to get a 360-degree view of the island!
Unfortunately, the day is over, the ferry is waiting for you, and it's time to leave Capri. Even if you only spend a few hours here, I bet the island will leave a lasting impression on you, and you'll be eager to return! Follow our advice and plan your perfect day in Capri: you won't regret it!
