Everyone knows that on the Amalfi Coast, with its picturesque villages and iconic landmarks, there’s a real risk of going over budget: exclusive hotels, seaside restaurants, and luxury beach clubs are everywhere—and they’re anything but cheap! With the right choices, though, you too can live out the dream of a vacation on the Amalfi Coast: here are all the budget-friendly options to help you enjoy your trip.

Where to stay on a budget

Staying in Positano, Ravello, and Amalfi is definitely an experience we’d all love to have, but it’s not always the best option if you’re on a tight budget. So, I recommend choosing less touristy—but no less beautiful!—towns like Minori, Maiori, or Vietri sul Mare if you want to be by the sea, or Scala and Agerola if you prefer the inland areas.
Also, when it comes to the type of accommodation, I recommend opting for B&Bs and vacation homes, which don’t offer too many extra amenities and are generally priced lower than hotels.

How to get around efficiently and economically

If you want a stress-free vacation and don’t want to shell out huge sums for parking (which is really expensive!), forget about driving your own car! In addition to limited and super-expensive parking, traffic can also be a problem: just think that because of this, alternate-day license plate restrictions have been in effect on the Amalfi Coast during the summer months for several years now, so you’ll also have to make sure you don’t get a ticket. There’s a solution to avoid all of this: public transportation! Buses run very frequently and pass through all the towns, but they still risk getting stuck in traffic. The alternative I recommend is therefore another one: traveling by sea! Travelmar ferries connect all the ports along the Amalfi Coast and depart at short intervals; moreover, they offer the possibility of combining visits to multiple destinations with a single ticket (for example, with the Dreamy Town Tour—you’ll find all the relevant info in the box below!). But do you know what the best part of traveling by sea is? The view, of course! Admiring the villages from the sea is a whole different experience: colorful houses clinging to the rocks, bell towers and majolica-tiled domes rising above the town centers, ancient and modern structures blending together… it’s truly a feast for the eyes (and for the wallet!)

Where to go to the beach

Beach clubs can be a real drain on your wallet—some are truly exclusive! But there is an alternative: almost every coastal town has stretches of public beach. Heads up! Keep in mind that during peak season, you’ll want to get there early in the morning to secure a spot on the beach. Some of the most affordable beaches are found in towns like Maiori, which has the longest beach on the Amalfi Coast, and Minori, but you can also find some budget-friendly options in Cetara.

Where to eat well without breaking the bank

Don’t think that a tight budget means you can’t enjoy the local cuisine of the Amalfi Coast—because that’s definitely not the case! Sure, there are plenty of Michelin-starred or expensive restaurants, but there are just as many local trattorias serving traditional dishes and fresh seafood, pizzerias and rotisseries offering tasty, quick meals, or little spots offering fantastic street food like fried fish cuoppi. To find them, I suggest you venture off the main streets and explore the alleys: often, it’s precisely in the less touristy side streets that you’ll find the best spots at great prices!

Free or low-cost activities and experiences

Not everything on the Amalfi Coast costs an arm and a leg! Even if social media makes you think you absolutely have to do a certain activity, just take a moment to think and ask yourself: “Can’t I do the same thing without paying exorbitant prices?”
For example, is it really necessary to join pre-organized tours and pay very high registration fees?? The answer is no! You can easily plan your own itineraries by following our tips. Here on the Travelmar webzine, you’ll find articles on every topic, from what to visit to how to get around, including complete itineraries already planned for you.
Plus, you certainly don’t need to pay someone to take you to the coolest events of the year. You can find those too by doing a simple online search based on your travel dates and using public transportation (a tip: for the most famous events, Travelmar organizes special shuttle services—always check the website!).
Finally, there are some priceless experiences that are completely free: a day on the Path of the Gods, for example, or strolling through the historic centers of the villages, or simply admiring a sunset in this corner of paradise.

Final tips

If you're on a budget, keep these tips in mind:
- Traveling during the off-season (winter and spring) definitely means lower accommodation prices overall;
- Bring water and some snacks from the supermarket if you want to avoid tourist prices;
- Book well in advance to lock in the lowest rates!

In short, you’ll have realized that visiting the Amalfi Coast on a tight budget doesn’t mean sacrificing beauty or the coolest experiences. On the contrary, choosing simpler options will also allow you to discover the most authentic side of this extraordinary region, rich in traditions, hospitality, and breathtaking views.
